The 2019 Flaxton Barbeque
It was a blustery Sunday morning when 13 MG’s of various vintages rolled into Easingwold Market Place. At least it was dry and the sun was trying to maintain a presence. Whilst some dived into their favourite café others were content to have a brew from their own flasks.
Soon we were joined by the contingent from Durham Services nobly led by Ray Rickaby. At 11.30 we were under starter’s orders and set off in convoy for Gennel House Farm where we hoped a sumptuous feast would await us. We were not to be disappointed. After everyone had taken their seats, and taken advantage of hot drinks, we caught up with friends’ exploits and awaited the call to “Line Up”.
It soon came. We entered into Angela’s kitchen to be greeted with a feast fit for a King (and a Queen of course). There was a delicious selection of meat straight off the barbeque and salads of every description. With plates filled we were off back to our seats and silence fell as we all tucked in.
There was seconds for those with room before being invited to visit the kitchen again to be greeted with a delightful selection of sweets prepared by our own fair maidens.
Following the meal, there was an invitation to visit John’s collection of classics in the barn. Most of our male colleagues took up the invitation whilst our ladies continued to put the world to rights.
The weather managed to stay fine though it was a bit breezy. Despite this, I think that all 42 of us had a really enjoyable time. Thanks to our greeter and very able parking attendant Carol, to John and Angela Walker for providing a delicious lunch and to Margaret and Maureen for providing the desserts.
John and Angela have invited us back next year and I for one am already looking forward to it.
