The 2019 All MG and Classic Car Show at the Riverside Park
I arrived at the Riverside Park in Chester Le Street nice and early on Sunday the 12th May to meet Bob Luke and his merry band of helpers who were in the middle of a dilemma. The Council had a agreed to a children's fun run around the area that they had agreed to let us use for our car show. We agreed to compromise and queue the cars outside while they completed their run, fortunately it didn’t take long so we weren’t inconvenienced much but we will make sure that it doesn’t happen again. The field began to fill rapidly from 9.30 and by 11am we had over 160 cars which was very good considering that there were four other car shows on in the area on the same day.
Derek May was busy appointing judges for the various classes, the judging was a difficult task because of the standard of the cars, I wouldn’t have been any good because thought they all deserved a prize.
We had a good group of Triumphs thanks to Steve Overall and a some very interesting American cars thanks to Kev Stewart not forgetting a large group of MG ZT’s and Rover 75’s thanks to Stuart Mcnulty. One of the club sponsors Jon Bradley from Classic and Retro Autos in Langley Park brought a very interesting collection of cars along as well. I would like to give a special thank you to the event organiser Bob Luke who puts a lot of time and effort into getting the elusive Licence to Occupy from the council and has to put up with the awkwardness of just a few people who don’t understand what we are trying to achieve.
The prizes were awarded by Patricia May at 3pm to the following worthy winners:
