Houghton Feast Parade

Every year Houghton has a week of celebrations culminating in the roasting of an ox. I and a number of other club members have taken part in the parade through the town for a number of years in support of this ancient tradition. On Saturday the 7th October David Stones, Rod Anderson and Kevin White joined regulars Kevin Stewart (who brought along his immaculate Corvette) and myself for this years parade. There was a great variety of vehicles both old and new in the parade as well as what seemed to be

every motorcycle from County Durham. The motorcycles featured some unusual types, there was a three wheeled one driven by a woman in a skull crash helmet towing a coffin shaped trailer that was decked with

lights and carrying a skeleton as a passenger, weird or what!

The newest and possibly most valuable car on the parade was a 2017 McLaren 570 which must have cost it’s owner about £150k. The oldest was this Ford truck seen here next to an AC Cobra replica. We followed a local pipe band and then childrens groups and associations as they marched through the town . The motorbikes and then the cars followed behind. It was a slow procession through the town through crowds of people who had turned out if force to cheer us on to Houghton Kepier School for the display of vehicles. If there is sufficient interest maybe we will have a club entry next year.
